I’m Sam Bail – Data Engineer, educator, and founder of Bright Nights Social, an alcohol-free nightlife platform in New York City. I’m currently based between Berlin and NYC. I’ve worked at data-centric startups doing things like healthcare data analysis, building an open source data quality framework, and leading engineering teams for over a decade. I also do a lot of conference talks and workshops around data, data quality, Python, Postgres, and other data topics, and I’m an online instructor for O’Reilly and LinkedIn Learning. I’ve also been hosting events in the non-alc space and writing about non-alcoholic topics since 2022.

This blog is a merger of several personal and technical blogs I’ve maintained in the past since my Manchester days in the late 2000s. You’ll come across a pretty random mix of technical posts, posts about my travels, my time in Manchester UK, and more recent content from NYC and Berlin.
